Introducing: Kris and Kevin, Our Dream Team

Headwaters Ranch is the brainchild of Kris and Kevin, a dynamic duo of Three Forks locals who partner in everything from life, to art, to farming, and now business. We’re not quite sure how we came to become owners of a 500-acre farm near the Headwaters of the Missouri River, but we’re pretty sure it all started with a much simpler idea: we decided to grow one acre of hops at our home.

In our family, things tend to snowball. We love hard work and we don’t shy away from putting in the necessary time to make things happen. So when we read an article about how much hops were in demand as a specialty crop in Southwestern Montana, Kris flew to Europe to search for the perfect plants, and Kevin got to work digging holes (mostly by hand).

A month later our hops yard was finished.

The first acre of hops went in so easily we thought, “Of course! We should plant more!” But first, we needed more land.

Introducing: Our Story

On our drive home one day we stopped at Montana Horses Ranch near Clarkston, MT, which we originally believed to be for sale. We quickly found out it was not for sale and realized we were, in fact, trespassing. Disheartened, we left our number with the owners and told them to call us if they ever wanted to sell the property.

To our delight, they called two days later. The sale went through in February 2017.

We originally purchased the 500-acre ranch with the honest intentions of planting hops, wildflowers, and cultivating bees. However, as fate would have it, Kris’s daughter, Ashley, was already in the wedding business as a caterer. After a few conversations, we all agreed that with a little work the property would be a fantastic location for a wedding venue. So the two of us (Kris and Kevin, both artists) took out our sketch pads and the Round Barn was born.

Fast forward fifteen months: we’ve built 14 structures on the property: 10 cabins, an office, a clubhouse, and the Round Barn, creating the small resort that we now affectionately call the Headwaters Ranch.

We hope you feel the love at your event!

Heading into our first season as a venue, we could not be more excited about the wonderful couples we work with and getting to know them better. As a family, we love working together to make magical things happen. We laugh a lot. We tend to do things the hard way. We believe in dreaming big and chasing after those dreams with purpose –– and we love to get to know our clients! We love to learn what makes people happy, and we love to share in their happiness.

Our passion for this project runs deep and we can’t wait to share it with our community.

Looking forward to meeting you,

Kris and Kevin
